The Volunteer Lawyers of the Arts of Massachusetts, a program of the Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston, Inc., is proud to announce a new 8 week program at the North Bennet Street School that will be focused on teaching business skills to North Bennet’s students. The program’s main goal is to empower North Bennet’s students by providing them the tools and confidence they need to master the business challenges of being an artist and artisan. The program will feature different lectures by professionals in the business world speaking on different aspects of business including the following:
· Business Planning
· Marketing
· Negotiating
· Small Business Accounting
· Copyright and Trademark Law
· Contracts
· Financial Planning
· Insurance
The VLA Business Program at North Bennet Street School also includes peer groups that will focus on team building and goal setting using the course materials and concepts learned throughout the program.
Since 1885, the North Bennet Street School has prepared their graduates to become master craftsmen by teaching them skillful use of hand tools and power equipment, informed choice of appropriate materials, knowledgeable and creative problem solving, and a commitment to the highest quality of work. North Bennet challenges its students by remaining dedicated to the apprenticeship model and requiring its students to create more and more difficult projects as the semester progress. This model teaches their students not only a mastery of their craft, but also an understanding of the procedure used in the trade. NBSS is diversified in its program selection offering degrees in Carpentry, Cabinet making, Violin making and repair and Piano technology.
The VLA hopes to work the North Bennet Street School by offering their students an education that will provide them a competitive edge in the business world.
