Tips For Teachers
What do the judges like?
Our judging panel welcomes new mediums and creativity in the artwork that is reviewed. The non-religious policy is heavily enforced-no religiously themed artwork will be reviewed. Our panel looks for pieces that would “work well” on a holiday card. This means that it is not necessarily the most artistically advanced piece that wins, it is the one that would make the most artistically appealing card. For example, last year we received a number of highly artistically advanced pieces. However, most of these pieces were too dark to make a good holiday card and were therefore not chosen as winners.
Other Educational Opportunities:
The VLA is passionate about educating students about legal issues surrounding the world of art and introducing students to the practice of law. This year the VLA will offer seminars to art classes to discuss copyright and trademark issues. Representatives from the VLA will come into the classroom and hold a seminar for the students. If you would like your class to participate, please contact the VLA to learn more at 617-350-7600 or via email at mail@vlama.org. To schedule a seminar, please fill out the Seminar Request Form and submit it to the VLA via email or USPS at 249 A Street Studio 14 Boston, MA 02210.
